"I thank my God every time I remember you." — Philippians 1:3
It was an event filled with heartfelt conversations, warm embraces, and prayers, as CSS welcomed some of its dearest supporters to a special Donor Mass and Appreciation Luncheon on June 12, 2025.
As familiar faces filled the room, many of whom have donated to the mission for years, there was a shared sense of something deeper—something sacred.
The gathering was truly a celebration of caring in action.
“Our guests don’t just give of their means—they give of their hearts,” said Catholic Social Services (CSS) CEO Dr. Troy Davies, “and we wanted to show just how much that love has mattered.”
That afternoon, Dr. Davies shared stories of transformation—real lives touched, healed, and lifted up through the generosity of the people in the room.

“One of our newest programs, the Care-a-Van, brings food, water, and other necessities to the vulnerable and unhoused living outside of Edmonton’s downtown core. But beyond the physical necessities, they also bring connection and hope. One day the team came upon a man searching for food in a trash bin, so they offered him food, water, and clean clothing. As the man graciously accepted the items and thanked them, he told the Care-a-Van team it was his 60th birthday and how grateful he was for such kindness.”
“That same program made a deep connection with a vulnerable woman who had suspected she was pregnant. The team sought her out on the streets regularly to help her with medical appointments and other needs for a person in her condition. She had other programs assisting her as well, but it was the Care-a-Van team she called when she went into labour. Beside her bed as they cradled her newborn in their arms, they asked why it was CSS she called for help. Her answer had them in tears – ‘because I trust you’.”
Another moment that stirred every heart was when Davies shared a story about attending a CSS Christmas party for the vulnerably housed. Seated next to him was a man who confided that for years he had spent his Christmas’ alone, and how wonderfully uplifting it felt to be able to enjoy the season in the company of others… complete with a surprise visit from Santa!
The message was simple, one’s time, prayers, and generosity are not only seen, but felt every single day by those we serve. A donation is more than charity. It is an answered prayer. It is love in action.
To every donor who has stood with us in faith:
Thank you for believing in us, our mission—and in the people we serve. We are grateful beyond words and blessed beyond measure to walk this path of compassion and faith with you.
Hebrews 6:10:
"God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them."
