She was only 16 when a motor vehicle accident left her with a traumatic brain injury. 

"It's hard to accept that I needed to start from scratch... the thing that helped me navigate and create my new life was Catholic Social Services."

After years of hiding as a result of shame and stigma surrounding her HIV diagnosis, Sarah finally found a supportive place to call home at Catholic Social Services’ Kairos House. She shared her story on 630 CHED's Talk to the Experts alongside CEO, Dr. Troy  Davies, and host Daryl Hooke.

After months of living out of her vehicle unsure where to turn, Valerie found Catholic Social Services' Welcome Home program and found two "kindred sisters" in her volunteers.

ECF acts as a bridge between donors and greater Edmonton charities to help create and maintain a strong, vibrant community for generations to come.  Through permanent endowment funds, the Foundation currently disburses 4% of the income to greater Edmonton charities. ECF is the 4th largest community foundation in Canada and is a member of the Community Foundations of Canada, the Council on Foundations, Imagine Canada, and the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce.
